POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a compassionate, skilled, and culturally competent Dental Hygienist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the unique dental health challenges and concerns within the LGBTQ+ community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Deliver preventative dental care and treatment services, including patient education, cleanings, and routine examinations.
  2. Take and develop dental x-rays.
  3. Administer sealants and fluoride to enhance teeth protection.
  4. Chart patient treatment plans and educate patients on oral health care.
  5. Partner with and take direction form dentists to ensure preventive care is provided and that patients are referred for additional dental treatment if needed.
  6. Document in the designated electronic dental data system.
  7. Advocate for patients, understanding that many may have had prior negative healthcare experiences or concerns specific to their identity.
  8. Adhere to policies, procedures, workflows, sterilization processes, etc.
  9. Keep abreast of the latest research and developments regarding LGBTQ+ dental health.
  10. Attend community outreach events to educate and promote dental health within the LGBTQ+ community.
  11. Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations and maintain current licensure and continuing education requirements.
  12. Provide care that is respectful of, and responsive to, individual patient preferences, needs, and values, ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Valid Dental Hygienist license in Michigan.
  2. Degree from an accredited dental hygienist program.
  3. Bachelor’s degree required.
  4. Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a dental hygienist.
  5. Current BLS certification.
  6. Current certification to administer and monitor nitrous oxide and local anesthesia.
  7. Knowledge of dental software.
  8. Experience working with diverse populations, preferably within the LGBTQ+ community.
  9. Sensitivity, understanding, and a commitment to cultural competence and inclusivity.
  10. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  11. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

All applicants are required to provide proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with an FDA- or WHO-authorized vaccine prior to their start date. Corktown Health also requires annual influenza vaccination. Any exception requested for medical or religious reasons must be documented in writing.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have any direct reports.

TRAVEL:

This position may require local travel as well as limited in-state and out of state travel.

SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS:

  • $75,000-$85,000 salary, based on experience.

SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is in-person, full time, predominantly during business hours Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours. The position is based at the organization’s main location in Detroit with periodic off site meetings and events. Work is generally performed within the office environment and includes significant in person, phone and email contact with staff, patients/clients, funders and the general public. This position reports to the Dental Director.
